five years ago...

... Eric couldn't contain his excitement. He kept dropping hints of what was to come that evening.

... I remember getting my nails done, curling my hair just how he liked it, and dressing up in my favorite outfit. I had to look perfect for one of the most special and memorable days of my life!

... I was popping batteries in the camera on the drive, which made Eric a nervous wreck. But then I left the camera in the car {fail}, which made Eric relax a bit.

... Eric took me back to where we had our first date. He told me how much he loved me, got down on one knee and PROPOSED!! Even though I saw it coming, there was no way to prepare me for the emotions I felt that night. I couldn't believe this guy, my perfect guy, wanted me for eternity!! 5 years ago today, Eric asked me to be his wife... and obviously I said YES ;)

Mia's newborn photos

My sister in law's (Alycia) sister in law (Sharley) took Mia's newborn pictures (Mia is 6 days old in these photos) and we are so in love with them!! Sharley was so patient with us... I had to feed Mia twice, she pooped on me, pooped on blankets, and peed on everything else ha ha, which resulted in a 3 hour photo shoot! But Sharley got some amazing shots that show off just how perfect our angel baby is!
All of my southern Utah and southern California friends must check out Sharley Cotter Photography! You will love her almost as much as I do :)

P.S. You can see more of Mia's newborn photos here, here and here. They are so incredibly precious!!

insta-life

My silly baby at 4 weeks. It is CRAZY how quickly time flies!
Our first date (my birthday date!) without Mia. Yes, I missed her so bad :)
Our first time taking Mia to church. We only stayed for an hour and hid her in the car seat the whole time :) We're only a little overprotective! And she rewarded us with a sweet smile!
One photo from the newborn session. This picture will definitely be blown up and hung in our home!

Birthday snuggles with my sweet angel baby. BEST birthday present ever :)
It is just so hard to be this cute.... ;) (The lighting of this picture makes it look worse, but yes my baby has lost some of her hair :( I might be really sad about this....)
6 week check up! I'm happy because I'm all healed up and Mia is happy because she got plenty of lovin' from the nurses! I didn't even see her the whole appointment because she was being passed around :)

I realize I'm overly obsessed with my baby. And I realize no one really cares about the pictures I post of Mia like I do.... but if you don't mind my obsession and want to follow along, find me at courtbrink!

the story behind her name

Eric and I went to Disneyland just a few months after we were married. We were on the "Finding Nemo" submarine ride when Eric randomly told me he'd like to name one of our daughters a Spanish name. He served and LDS mission in Mexico City so I knew Eric had a soft spot for the language and people... but I couldn't even begin to pronounce the names he was suggesting. (I can't even roll my "r's"... Spanish is NOT the language for me, ha ha!) I said no to each name until he suggested "Mia"... he told me it means "mine". My heart melted and I've been in love with the name ever since!

When we found out we were having a baby girl, I excitedly told Eric we could name her Mia! His response was, "Why?!" Why?? Are you kidding me? A tiny part of me wanted to smack him, ha ha! Eric had his fun searching for names online and going through name books. He especially loved to suggest names that rhymed with Mia like: Gia, Tia, Leah.... the man loves to tease me :) I tried to be open to names that he honestly liked, but I just knew that baby girl was a "Mia"!
We definitely knew our daughter's middle name would be Marie, that is the name to be passed down in my family. (In fact, all the women in our 5 generation photo share the same middle name, Marie!) We just had to agree on the first name :)

My parents gave us their name book that they used with me and my brothers (that book is extremely outdated... how did I get so old??) I was flipping through the book when I found a page that had "Mia Marie" written in my mom's handwriting. I asked her about it, and she told me that was one option they were thinking of before they found out my older brother was a boy. I never knew this and thought it was pretty neat! When I told Eric about the coincidence he joked that "it was pre-destined, and we had to name our daughter Mia Marie."
In the end, we were choosing between "Mia" and one other name, but we wanted to see our baby girl before making the final decision.

When our baby was born, the doctor and nurse kept asking what her name was! We told them we needed a minute alone with our baby girl before making the decision. As soon as the room cleared out Eric and I took one look at each other and knew what her name was. Eric asked me, "Mia??" Of course I replied with, "Definitely Mia!!" Our precious Mia Marie Brinkerhoff.... there couldn't be a more perfect name for my baby!
