not really a weekend review

Uncle Eric's just playin' with Isaac :)

Our weekend was spent hanging out with our families! Sunday we celebrated an early mother's day with my family (hellllllo crab legs! I haven't had those in over 3 years... way too long!) and we spent our Monday with Eric's family. Do you know what the BEST feeling is? Going from one family to the other and experiencing the same feelings of love, comfort, and acceptance! I feel 100% at home when I'm at my in-laws, and I know Eric feels the same at my parents. How lucky are we?? I feel like I gained more family when we got married. There really is no separation of children and in-law children. We are all loved JUST the same (well if I'm being honest.... Eric and Alycia are probably more loved than me and Trevor :) haha). I realize how lucky I am because some don't get along with their in-laws, and some just can't wrap their minds around the fact that they have gained family members, versus their children's spouses, or their spouses family. Make sense? I am just feeling so grateful to be apart of one big happy family :) Because that's the way it should be, no?

Getting along with your inlaws is SO important. You realize this when your significant other has terrible parents (my ex's were HORRID). I'm lucky to have awesome ones now!

oh family. there is truly nothing better. and i am so glad that you didn't end with "and then eric dropped isaac on the head". honestly though, you hear all the in-law jokes and i just don't get them. i guess i'm lucky too.

I got lucky in the same way - I love Mike's family like my own... I don't really get all the awful MIL jokes, because I dont have that problem. I guess I should be thankful for that, huh?!

Definitely jealous of your in-law love...mine suck. I really, honestly, don't think they like me. They're pretty selfish people too & they don't really treat my husband the way parents should treat their child. BUT my husband gained some great In-Laws. My Parent's are fabulous!

I love having big, huge, happy families. My parents adore J and vice versa. Then we get to hang with his family and it's the same way!

My in-laws are gonna hate me.

I've only recently started to wrap my head around the fact that my future in-laws are my family as well, whether I like it or not (most of the time I do like it) and the sooner I accept it, the more at home I should feel around them.

It's not always easy though.. while I feel like my family has accepted my fiancé and welcomed him to the family the way he is, I feel like my fiancé's family is a little disappointed that he didn't choose a local girl with the same interests as his family. Especially my MIL can be a handful at times, but she can also be such a lovely person, almost like a second mother... But now that I think of it, I have a sort of love-hate relationship with my own mother as well :D

you are so freaken lucky.
When I was with my son's father, his family were nice to me like at the beginning, because well... I literally lived with them, then after a while we just couldn't deal with each other. His mom and I... man we argue and his sisters are so evil (except his older sister, who is like a good friend to me) but I get along with his dad and his dad's new family. But to read about how everyone else gets along, I want that!! (:
Sounds like a great weekend.

This is such a sweet post! I'm hoping that I can say the same thing when I'm four years into my marriage :) So far, so good with the in-laws! Hopefully the love continues to grow :)

That's sweet that you get along with both of you families. That's how it is with my family and my in-laws; we do a lot of holidays together which I love. And you are right. That is exactly how it should be.

It's awesome you get along so well with your inlaws. I'm jealous!

Yes it should be like and and I would say I'm a bit jealous. We get that with my side but with his side nada. They just didn't grow up lovey dovey and spending time with each other. Can't change it now except that he's changed for the better big time :)
