intruder!

A couple nights ago I woke up in the middle of the night and dragged my tired body out of bed to go potty. Don't worry, I don't lay toilet paper down on the seats in my own house ;) Anyway, the layout of our bedroom/bathroom is like this: there is a door way with no door that goes straight from the bedroom to the double sinks. Keep walking straight and you'll find yourself in the area with the toilet and tub/shower. There is a door that separates the "bathroom" from the sinks. Make sense? But if you don't walk straight into the "bathroom" you can turn left and you find yourself in our closet. Again, there is no door separating the closet from the sinks or bedroom. And the closet curves to the right so you can't see our clothes from the mirror above the sinks. Make sense? :) So if either one of us get up in the middle of the night we don't turn on any lights until we close the door to the bathroom because the lights will shine right on the bed.
Back to my story.... I flush the toilet and turn off the light, then I open the door and go to wash my hands. All the sudden I hear a wrapper crinkling in the closet.... OH MY GOSH! I start freaking out because it is pitch black and Eric is dead asleep. INTRUDER! I start running for the light that is TWO sinks away from me (so far away when you're in a panic) and I slam my knee into the door way. Awesome. I flip on the light to find ERIC standing in our closet looking at me like I'm a crazy person. I am about to fall over from a heart attack when he asks me what the heck my problem is?? Ha ha (I laugh now, but I wasn't laughing then) I wanted to kill him! I told him that I thought a stranger was in our closet! Apparently he wasn't sleeping good that night so he was getting some ear plugs (I totally don't snore. Promise) to see if that would help him sleep better. Needless to say, the man got in big trouble for not turning on any lights and scaring the crap out of me! Actually, or I should say honestly, I started crying and told him he was so mean for trying to scare me on purpose.... then I crawled back into bed and fell asleep. I don't handle stressful situations well when I'm half asleep, ha ha! Please tell me this has happened to someone else??

Jeremy scares me all the time! Usually when he's coming home from hockey late at night! I tend to shoot out of bed often! Or when Claymore is snoring at the end of the bed while Jeremy is out of town I'll wake up thinking someone is breaking into the house, only to find out it's just the dog :)

That would freak me out too! I am just glad it was Eric getting ear plugs! I love ear plugs...I always sleep much more soundly with them in!

Did you scream? I would have screamed.

The cat I just adopted likes to cry all night, but his meows sound like, "Hellllooooo???" so the first night he was home, I was CONVINCED someone was in the house.

Hahaha I was thinking it was some kind of animal or something! Of course when you're half asleep the first thing that comes into your head is a burglar/murderer

I've never had that happen, but my husband has night terrors sometimes. Now THAT is scary!!! He'll actually be a asleep, but he'll make a lot of noise like he's in pain or startled, or sometimes he'll actually sit up in bed and start screaming like he's seeing something. And I'm always like WHAT?? TELL ME WHAT IT IS!!! And then he usually wakes up and is like..oh, I guess I was dreaming. AHH!! Sometimes I'm still half asleep so I start screaming too, and then we both come awake really confused. Once I had to get up and watch an episode of The Office just to calm down. thankfully that doesn't happen very often, at least not in the last couple years. But when I'm half asleep I'm not always logical enough to realize he's dreaming, so I think he's actually seeing something. Scary stuff!

I don't know if my hubby tries to scare me, but there have defiantly been times when he unintentionally woke me up from a deep slumber and as a result I start screaming!

I can't get up in the middle of the night and walk out of bed. I have to run. I HATE the bed skirt and always think someone is underneath it. In high school, I would JUMP, but now with Derek in bed... I just kinda do a whimpy scamper. HAHA I feel your paiN!!! Sorry about your knee!

I would have screamed too. What a story! :)

When I was a kid, and had to get up in the middle of the night to pee, I used to think someone was under my bed, so I'd literally jump out of bed to go potty and than make a mad dash/jump back into the bed so that whoever was under my bed couldn't grab my feet. The sad part...I had a day bed, and there was a trundle underneath...no one was under my bed...haha

Bahaha. This has so happened to me too! Oh hubbys! haha! :)

Yep, I would have screamed.. haha We've done that to each other a few times.
My husband has never done it on purpose because he actually scares easy, so payback would be a lose-lose for him. :)

Oh my goodness Courtney! You crack me up! :) No worries my husband scares the crap out of me all the time!

Haha that's funny!

I have a story similar to that but it happened to my stepmom. When my brother was living at my parents house, he had a large cardboard cutout of one of the Star Wars characters. She's a nurse who sometimes works long hours and he thought it would be funny to put the cardboard cutout in their bedroom for her to come home to. My Dad was in on the scheme as well. She comes home at like midnight one night, my Dad is sleeping in the bed and she stops in her tracks. She starts freaking out, trying to whisper to my Dad to wake up because someone is in the room. He shoots up in bed, scaring her even more and when she turned the light on and saw the cutout she was mad!!

But it was funny :)

Ha ha! Oh the joys of being married! Can't say that has happened exactly but we have both been up in the middle of the night (trying to comfort our baby) and run into each other.

Your bedroom/bathroom layout sounds just like ours! And yeah, I would have freaked out too!

Oh my god I would have FREAKED! I don't know how I would react. But as soon as I'd gotten over the heart attache I probably would have killed him. I'm so easy to scare. Like, I will literally scream a little when somebody in the room goes BOO....even though I know that person is there. People are always trying to scare me...it's just not funny.

Afterwards it always sounds so hilarious though ^^

Oh jeeees, I would have fainted flat at the first sound of a foreign wrapper in my closet... My hubs would have gotten majorly pecked (I peck my husband in his pecs with my hand if he's in trouble).

Hahah what a crazy story! I had the same problem one time. I was sitting at home by myself in the middle of the day and I hear my front door open up. No one should've been home for hours. I open my office door to see my boyfriend standing there. I wanted to slap him across the face!

Luna said...

YES! He thinks it was so funny but I was on edge for hours before finally falling back to sleep.

I get scared at night even when I hear the hubs get out of bed. I don't always process well when I'm tired.

Oh, you are just fine. I would have done the same thing... Maybe worse. I'm terrible when I am half asleep and freaked out. Just ask Megan how I acted when the security alarm was going off at the blogger retreat. No good.

hahaha your post made me laugh. (:
Thank goodness there was no intruder though.
haha Poor Eric... and poor you. (:

Oh man I think I would have gone into heart attack mode too, if I had thought a burglar had gotten into my house in the middle of the night!

I am glad your "intruder" was only your husband!

Crazy Shenanigans-JMO said...

I would have completely freaked out as well. I'm really bad when it comes to stuff like that. Any noise and I assume someone is either in the house or trying to get in.
