shopping dilemma

Eric and I finally got to see the infamous City Creek shopping center in SLC :)  We loved it (even though we can't afford to even walk into some of the shops, ha ha)! We both really miss living close to good shopping! So on our way home we stopped at 3 malls. THREE! And do you know what we bought? One package of socks for Eric. What the heck??
I was thinking it would be fun to buy my first item of maternity clothing, but I couldn't bring myself to pay full price for a shirt I can't even wear yet. I was really hoping to find some lose fitting shirts because... I'm in an awkward stage right now. I wake up skinny, but by the end of the day I am as bloated as I can get. It's not cute. I'm afraid I'm going to be a very large and in charge pregnant girl.... Anyway! I couldn't find anything worth buying! What is my problem?
Am I just in a funk because my body isn't really me anymore? In the back of my mind I am always thinking about the major expenses we have coming up, is that holding me back from shopping? I shouldn't be stressing about the fact that I didn't want to buy anything... but that is just so not like me! And the form fitting clothes I own just aren't very attractive right now, ha ha! I need my very own personal stylist/shopper! Volunteers? :)

I hear ya! I so badly want to buy baby things and maternity wear, but can't bring myself to quite yet. I am also in that awkward stage, though I don't wake up skinny...I haven't for years. Ha!

In the back of my mind I keep thinking that I shouldn't be spending money because I can admit that I haven't the slightest idea how much this baby is going to cost us. I think that means we're wise and going to be great moms!! ;)

Ross & TJ Max has the cutest loose shirts, I wore them throughout that stage which will seem to last for so long your first pregnancy! Then your fitted shirts will look super cute once you have that little baby bump! It is super hard to buy clothes while pregnant though!

First, congratulations on the pregnancy! My sister went through the same phase about a month ago, but she is really showing now. She got some fantastic deals at Gap's maternity section this week! I hope that helps, so you're not only buying socks at your next shopping trip!

I hear ya girl-- I always tend to let my mind wander to the big expenses we have ahead of us. I haven't shopped in what feels like forever, but I'm hoping to treat myself to a couple things this weekend at the outlets ;)

And girlfriend- You are gonna be ONE gorgeous pregnant woman, I can't wait til you get a lil bump!!!

i tried not to buy a ton of maternity clothes. I bought dresses & skirts & shirts a size or two bigger in the clearance section at old navy! That was the only way I could justify buying new clothes knowing how much we were spending on baby stuff! And I'm not going to lie one bit, I can't wait to wear my old clothes again because nothing fits right now & it drives me crazy!!

Welcome to the awkward stage! I wore dresses, tunics, and leggings during this stage. I also bought a pair of low rise maternity jeans. You can also get maternity tanks and wear your regular tops over them.

I cannot believe that we were there at the same time! How fun would it have been to meet in person!
HAHA! 3 malls and a package of socks?! You must have some MAJOR self-control! I totally understand your frustration - it's one of the most frustrating situations to go shopping, with the intent on making some purchases, and then not finding anything :( I'm sorry!
As for advice on maternity clothing... I'm not prego, so my advice prob isn't the greatest... BUT have you tried Target?? I ALWAYS walk through their maternity section because they have some of the cutest things!

It's a tough stage for sure! I'd invest in a be-band or similar for your pants that are starting not to button (or to be very uncomfortable when they are). I wish I would've gotten one earlier on in my pregnancy. As for shopping for maternity clothes, I'm just cheap anyways, but I haven't paid full price for a single item. I have two pairs of pants, one from Old Navy and one from Shade Maternity clearance. All the shirts I've bought were either on sale or on clearance. I'd say I've spent less than $100 total...probably closer to $75. Hope those tips help you a little later on. For now, just try wearing looser clothing :P

Yes, I've been there! Pregnancy can be hard to dress. BUT I've learned that with all that weight gain and a huge tummy, some cute outfits can make a girl feel much better about herself. (Although I'm pretty sure "cute" does not go well with "maternity clothes". Ever.)

Up until about week 30 this pregnancy, I wore lots of my "fat clothes" aka post-partum Jed clothes. They're mostly shirts in a size or two up that aren't meant to be form fitting... until that baby bump can no longer be hidden! Don't forget a little belt. Those clothes are WORTH spending a little money on because you'll not only wear them through half of pregnancy, but for a few months after as well.

I'm also in love with maxi dresses in a size up! I could live in those if I could afford a closet full. Be sure to check out Ross and Target for maternity clothes. They're often cheap and cute. Can't beat that!

You're gonna rock pregnancy!

I bought a few looser shirts that could grow with me before I really fit into maternity clothing. Or you could wear some of your hubs tshirts. Those are comfy too!

I just spent the last week in Utah, and legit almost everyday was spent at City Creek! SOO pretty! Outdoor shopping malls are the best!

I have a hard time paying full price for anything actually. I pride myself on hunting sale racks :) But I do dream of a time when I dont have to look at price tags...hmm...

Girl you are so not alone... no, I'm not pregnant, but I do have a handful of women come into my work lately looking for clothes for pregnancy. They never want to buy maternity clothes so they just buy clothes that have a more 'generous' cut. A line dresses or cute yoga pants with loose fitting t-shirts... they try and shop for things they can wear post-pregnancy too.

I know that when I'm having a bloated day, or just an 'ugly' day, I don't ever feel like shopping either. I say you dress cute, do your hair so you feel good, and go out and buy yourself a few cute new clothes that you can wear through a lot of your pregnancy.

You deserve it! Especially after all that shopping and only getting socks for Eric. (:

I'll be your personal shopper! Shop the sales- Old Navy has rockin' ones! And, I've never been prego, but I hear investing in a belly band is a must and then just live in spandex and cute shirts. In the fall- again, more spandex, boots, scarves, big sweaters. AHH. The perfect time to be prego and then in the winter "hide" it all in the layers! SMART girl! And, you will be adorable!!

I feel your pain. I'm in the awkward stage of pregnancy where my normal clothes just aren't cutting it anymore but I don't feel like I need full blown maternity clothes. I've gone to the store 3 or 4 times now specifically to go maternity clothes shopping and every time I get there I just can't bring myself to do it haha. So if you figure it out or find a personal shopper, send them my direction when your'e done with them =)

me, me, pick me!!! i volunteer!! styling my friends is my favorite thing. and im obsessed with pregnant ladies. seriously.

but i think its just because you're in the "in between" stages. i'd say to try shirt that have shape and are flowy, but will grow with you. tunics and maxi dresses would probably be great and super comfortable for you!

I found THE cutest clothes when I was super pregnant and couldn't fit in them. I held off on maternity clothes for a while since I ended up not getting my "baby belly" in the same place I carried my "baby bloat"

I would definitely hit up the cheaper places for maternity clothing. Full price is for suckers and the super rich! lol

Haha I can't believe you wandered around all those shops and only bought socks! :P

I'm sure between a changing body and all those hormones- your mind is playing tricks on you! I wouldn't pay full price either, though! I would check Target sales (I bet they have super cute stuff) and stores like Ross, Marshalls, and TJMaxx. I'd LOVE to be your personal shopper!!

I will gladly give you all the clothes that don't fit me anymore.

However what I do is just shop khols and get all the clothes in a larger size. Their SO brand has been my go to through pregnancy. I'm in the Extra large shirts right now , but they're still super loose.

That brand is stretchy and comfy and I'm actually still wearing my medium shirts too from when I was in High School and they're just getting short , not tight.
