a hike that almost killed me... {Angels Landing}

Amy , Shay , Kristie , Me :)
One word: Pain.
 Boo!
 Switchbacks from you know where.....
And now we are getting to the part where people die... camera went in the back pack so I don't have any pictures to show you how crazy it got.
Made it!

I'm not quite sure how I survived this hike. It's 5 1/2 miles (probably round trip, but still!) and you basically go straight up the mountain! As you can see from the pictures, those switchbacks are super fun to tackle... Throw pregnancy into the mix and now you are wondering how I survived this hike, am I right?
I was super shocked to find how quickly I'd lose my breath (I had to stop for a breather every 2 steps, ha) and just how out of shape I've become! Actually, I don't know if it's that I'm out of shape or if my body is just too busy growing my baby to care about anything else :) Either way, I was in pain the whole way down the mountain! I kept complaining and asking myself if it was worth it....
Well, it was worth it! I got to spend the whole day enjoying God's beautiful creation. The views were incredible! I need to take more time in my life to just pause, and enjoy the beauty I am surrounded with!
And have I mentioned the girls I hiked with? I met Amy and Kristie for the first time and my life has been bettered because of them! It can be so intimidating to meet bloggers in real life, but these girls are the sweetest!  I'm so lucky to call them friends. And of course we all know I love Shay!
Despite my complaining, spending the day with Shay, Amy, Kristie, nature, and God were all just what I needed!
(But I'm definitely looking forward to hiking this next year, when I have my body back and the baby is strapped to Eric :) ha ha!)

How incredibly BEAUTIFUL and AWESOME!!! Angels Landing is on my "to do" list. And you did it while prego too. It's sooo much harder to do anything prego (you're not weak; it's weird how that baby can suck the breathe and energy from you when he's just the size of a pea). That fact makes you just that much cooler for doing the hike.

I went to Zion's last summer for a family reunion. My hubby couldn't come, so I lugged my one year old on my back all the way up The Narrows like Amazon woman. Jed loved it and it was so much fun! Hope you're able to go back with a baby too.

WOW!!! How on earth did you manage that at three months preg? I wouldn't have made it half way!
What a stunning view.
You look absolutely gorgeous and not at all preg. I'm looking forward to seeing that little belly soon.

That looks fun!! So BEAUTIFUL. Oh my gosh. Also--you're completely awesome for doing that while pregnant. I would have been stopping to puke every five steps. Keep up that awesome walking!! You're pregnancy and labor/delivery will be so much easier!

I did this hike in the dead of August four years ago. and that is why I don't hike anymore. I remember just staring up at those switchbacks blinking back tears. The part with the chain was the good part. the rest of it sucked. but you're right. the view at the top, definitely worth it. though I don't think I will ever need to go again. I got pictures....

Wow. Every time I look at pictures I think "That was a crazy hard hike." It's amazing the type of decisions I make on 2 hours of sleep. I should probably apologize for the choices Amy and I made. "Angel's Landing?! Let's hike it!" How we did this without any casualties is beyond me ;)

Also, that vlog? Hilarious. Freaking hilarious.

WOW! that hike looks amazing! If you read my blog at all you know I love walking and hiking. I've managed to keep up my walking 5-days a week.
We also went on a crazy water hike in Jamaica that I'm going to post about either tonight or in a few days(when I get pictures).
Being 4-months pregnant.. I was worried and not sure I would do it again.
HA!! When are you due?

Brissa said...

yeah, that hike gives me nightmares. but now your baby can brag about hiking angel's landing while it was still in your belly!! it's already so accomplished!

We have the same thing and it's called "The Incline" It's a mile straight up (climbing stairs made out of railroad ties) and then you hike the back side down. I haven't made it all the way yet...I was scurred!
