our upgrade and needed advice

We have always loved our queen size bed, it is the most comfortable bed we've ever laid on. But we have been wishing ever since we bought the bed (when we got married) that we had got the king size instead. You see, for some odd reason Eric doesn't like my knees in his back each night?? I know, weird. So we've been saving and saving and we finally upgraded!

no need to tell me how good I am at making up the sheets ;)

This bed is HUGE! Besides the fact that it needs to be broken in a little... we love it! But there is one big problem. I don't have a comforter for our bed, obviously. So I need YOUR help! I wish I was talented in the interior decorating department... but it's not my strong suit. Please tell me your favorite sites/stores for comforters! If I'm in love with it I can shell out the money, but until then? I'm not paying hundreds of $$ for a comforter to get me by until I do find the one I love. You know?

I'm planning on decorating the room based off of this:
KISS is a mint-ish green color

If you have any ideas of the color scheme I should go with as far as the comforter goes, I'd love to hear them! I'm planning on hanging this sign right above our bed. And then I have no clue what to put on the wall to surround it... so again. I'd love ideas if you have 'em :)

P.S. Who wants to visit?? Our guest room is equipped with the comfiest bed ever. Promise! The hubs just might have to put up with some knees in his back all night ;) It's a hard life they live!

yay for upgrades. : ] And comfy beds. Try HomeGoods for a comforter. I got the cutest one for my guest bedroom there!

YAY for the upgrade! When we got our king, I went to TJ Maxx/Home Goods and found a comforter with some throw pillows that I just loved for half the price you'd pay anywhere else. I think it's worth a shot to at least look there! :)

So exciting! I'm a sucker for Target bedding...so affordable and cute. We snagged this http://www.google.com/imgres?q=dwell+studio+yellow+and+gray+quilt&um=1&hl=en&client=safari&sa=N&rls=en&authuser=0&biw=1280&bih=680&tbm=isch&tbnid=D9LMQX1JZ_jYIM:&imgrefurl=http://www.bitsandpieces-blog.com/2010/04/sunny-side-up.html&docid=3KPFGlbcwsGMpM&imgurl=http://www.redbookmag.com/cm/redbook/images/Rg/big-and-small-prints-bedroom-1-0510-lgn.jpg&w=500&h=375&ei=g39oT5yZPMLw0gH-wdydCQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=982&vpy=375&dur=77&hovh=194&hovw=259&tx=191&ty=189&sig=112270160787767076033&page=1&tbnh=143&tbnw=186&start=0&ndsp=18&ved=1t:429,r:17,s:0

when we bought our king size bed in November, but It was on clearance and is probably out of stock. Target has TONS of cute stuff right now though! I love this one... http://www.target.com/p/Target-Home-Global-Geo-Quilt/-/A-13645113#?lnk=sc_qi_detaillink It's a basic gray, so you could easily add fun pops of color with sheets & pillows!

YAY for new KING beds! I just got one a couple weeks ago! Tjmaxx has cute comforters, we got ours from jcpenny. They have good ones too :)

Ahhh, isn't is amazing? We went from a FULL sized mattress to a King back in February and it was the best money we have ever spent! And I have the same sign hanging in our bedroom! I bought our new comforter set from Bed Bath and Beyond for only $80, plus I had a 20% off coupon. It came with a set of sheets, the comforter, two sets of shams and two decorative pillows!

I LOVE down comforters. You can get cheap ones or really expensive ones. I've gotten mine from Bed Bath and Beyond. They are also great because you can have one comforter and multiple duvet covers. If you feel the need to redecorate, you don't need to go buy a new comforter. I get the flannel duvet covers from LL Bean, they are SO ridiculously soft and comfortable. They have lots of colors, I like solids. Otherwise, Bed Bath and Beyond has lots of printed duvet covers. Disclaimer: if you go with the above, you may not want to get out of bed in the morning.

We have a king too and I love it!

I have a really nice Ralph Lauren white down alternative comforter from TJ Maxx! It was super cheap too...The nice thing about it is if I get bored with the white, I can just buy a duvet.

I love my king bed...I don't think I could ever go back to sleeping on anything smaller. I ordered my duvet from overstock.com.

Congrats on the new bed!! I want to upgrade to a king now! For bedding I would check out West Elm, they have some of the cutest bedding and it's all at a great price! www.westelm.com

Last year we struggled to find a duvet that we liked, and ended up just getting a plain brown one until we found one that was just right. Friday Andy found a flash sale at West Elm and finally got us a new one! It comes tomorrow and I am so exited. It is super hard to pick out bedding.

I am in love with west elm.

the king is the way to go...pretty soon, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it! and if you ever need a *break* (ahem!) you can always go spend one night on your comfy queen int he guest room! win win!!!

i am a major down comforter + duvet cover girl....that way, i get to switch up the look without buying a whole new comforter set. i just buy solid sheets and then a couple of printed duvet covers that match the solids! i like www.thecompanystore.com (google for offer codes before you purchase!), garnet hill and even smartbargains.com! and check costco for down comforters! they have good ones!!

King Beds are THE BEST. I'm missing ours so much, because as far as I've seen, European queens (smaller than American ones) are as big as they get here. And you can only imagine how uncomfortable it is for Mike and I after we slept on a king for the first year of our marriage!
I say bed bath and beyond. they've got a ton of stuff.
Although... I bought our bedding at Target, because that's how I roll! hahaha

Suget said...

yay!!! I like upgrades.
Can you believe Kai and I only sleep on our King bed, since the other boys finally got their own bunk bed. haha So now we have a huuuuuge area that we don't touch at all. This lil guy has to sleep right up against mom. haha
That is a pretty lil decor sign. Hmmm a lil brown and black.. or maybe something vibrant like emerald and dark blue.... Sorry I have no place to suggest for comforters. ):

Carlie said...

I love green! Good color scheme choice! My favorite place for bedding is Macy's. They have so many choices. They even have these "beds in a bag" that include pillows. Can't wait for you to share what you pick out! Good luck!

Pamela said...

We have a king size bed & love it! Well, when you have a 6'+ husband, you kinda need a big bed, ha! Love the green mint color!! I have a small frame, with the same quote, on my nightstand. Love :) One of my friends gave us our comforter (green & brown!) as a wedding gift. It actually came from Wal-Mart, & I love it!! I would def check out Target or Bed, Bath, & Beyond too! You could easily do the comforter in the brown/tan that is in the frame, or do with a simple black (maybe with some green or white mixed in).

I usually look at Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters for inspiration before wandering to Home Goods, TJ Maxx, or Marshalls to find a good deal!!

I would also check EBay. I got a wonderful vintage butterfly quilt for $50 from EBay, and I adore it.

Britt Hanson said...

I'm basically going to be echoing everyone, but here goes!
TJ Maxx has some great deals, as well as Bed, Bath and Beyond. We got ours at BBB - one of the bed in a bag sets that include pillows for around $80, I think!
Also, I'm jealous of your king size bed! My poor 6'5" husband would love that... Not to mention he has a wife who seems to take over the whole bed even with being over a foot shorter than him :)

We have that sign too in our room! I love Target for bed stuff!

Randi said...

I have that same sign! I'm jealous, we want a king so bad! soon, I hope!

We have a down comforter that is like sleeping in a cloud. I'm a duvet fan as well, it's easy to change up and also to wash. Right now, I have a white linen duvet with a sage green trim from Land's End that we love. I love Land's End, LL Bean, and Home Goods for linens!

I'll be in Utah this weekend... So maybe ill keep driving and come sleep over haha

We have that same frame/picture in our bedroom. I LOVE IT! We have a picture of us on either side, and a small ledge below it with some candles on it. We originally got it because we have a joke that we only kiss 1 time a day and it's our goodnight kiss, haha.

I've been craving a bedroom makeover lately too (right now our comforter doesn't really match the rest of the room at all).

I always thought it'd be pretty to paint the walls a similar green as the word "Kiss" and then do a neutral bedspread - something white or cream, etc. A bedspread in that green color would be super pretty, too!

How fun! Good luck!

Emily said...

I would stick with a neutral color for the bedspread. That way you can switch up wall color, accessories whenever you want without having to buy new bedding.

Oh my sweet girl, we are so much alike! Lol... I to did not get the good interior design gene. I suck at thinking up ideas... prob why I love Pinterest so dang much! I just KINDA copy others, sad but true!

I am a Target girl. I swear my whole house is pretty much Target. Good thing, I'm totally ok w/ that! The cool thing about Target is they usually group together things that look great, & color schemes. I like to get like bedding set, drapes... maybe rug, pics.... the main things there... all coordinated. Then I like to go to cool thrift shops & buy unique items to mix in! Just an idea love!

CAN'T wait to see the love shack, when your all finished! Btw, YAY for King size bed! XO

P/S the Kiss me good night pic is perfect.

King sized beds are amazing. I am not a touchy person when I'm sleeping. In fact, I would opt for the "stay the heck away" option, so the king is perfect for us!

I recommend Herbergers Home Store. They *ALWAYS* have sales on down or down alternative comforters and duvet sets. We get everything there.

Mrs. Robinson said...

Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Belk! (I know Belk is a "Southern Chain" but go online and look at their sets. They have some really great ones, we got ours from Belk. AND they have great sales! Good luck!

I need help myself i have been struggling for 2 years now trying to decide how i want to decorate and finding just the right things. I would look at pottery barn sale or clearance and target that's where I look for my duvet cover and quilt. I cant wait to see what it looks like when its all done! :)

lori said...

my hubs and i could never go back to a queen bed after buying our king. i loveeee it. as for bedding, ours is from target. i loveee anthropologie's bedding, but its super expensive.

Thank you for posting this! I myself am in the same predicament. I went and looked at TJ Maxx and Target this past weekend and just didn't "love" anything. They have the cute white clean look comforters at Target, but they are just not practical for us with 2 dogs who sleep in the bed. I am definitely going to investigate the ideas your followers have shared. My advice- don't buy something online without seeing it in person. I fell in love with a set online at JC Penney only to have it arrive and the colors were completely different than they looked online. I then had to send back a 20 lb box to them for a refund, and pay for the nonrefundable shipping. BOO!

We have that sign too! It used to be above our bed, but I moved it when I did our chevron faux headboard! I LOVE LOVE LOVE big, white beds. I did our bed all white linens and comforter and then have some colored pillows on it. But, white beds always remind me of hotels and I love it!

Amanda said...

Target and Marshalls! That's how I did our bedding. Quilt and shams were from Marshalls, duvet cover was from Target, sheets were from Marshalls. :) I wanted to decorate on a budget but still have it look good, so that's how I did it. I can email you a picture of how it turned out if you want!

Tiffany @ Blabbering Thoughts said...

West Elm = the best. Prices are decent too.. Plus I'd go with just a duvet.. I like to change every couple of years & since I did not get a duvet, the fiance is making me pay for it by keeping it around!!

RadiantKristen said...

I'm going to jump on the duvet bandwagon... wishing I had gotten one when we got our last batch of bedding, because we have a black cat and white and light brown bedding! I would love to be able to easily wash that sucker instead of having to vacuum all of the cat hair off twice a week!

I love this....I bet you are excited about your bigger bed although the difference is amazing you almost feel lost in your bed once you upgrade. i will keep an eye out for some ideas :)

what part of utah do you live in?! I WANT TO COME VISIT!!! haha! And I would go for tj max, marshalls, ross, stores like that. Seriously comforters can cost a fortune! But you don't need to spend that! Ours is awesome and it was like $40. Or keep your eye out for clearance. I wouldn't be in a rush to find it either. Because that's something you really want to be happy with. We just used blankets til we got ours.

I am a HUGE fan of buying a plain white comforter insert (think down/down alternative) in different weights and then using duvet covers. It's great because you can switch them out and change up the entire feel of your room, and they aren't going to break the bank.

That being said, Urban Outfitters has some great duvet covers, as well as Ikea. You can also check out places like Marshalls, Stein Mart, and TJ Maxx for great printed comforters by designers such as Cynthia Rowley and Laura Ashley.

Janna Renee said...

I think a quilt would look really nice, but new ones are uncomfortable and it takes YEARS to break store bought ones in. I have been enamored with down comforters, but I don't like the hassle, so I go with down "alternative" comforters that can be thrown in the wash. I always choose mocha or mint green and then dress it up with fun pillow shams and accent pillows!

Sadly I'm no help in the decorating department (I started "redecorating" our bedroom like a year ago and our walls are still bare! haha), but I AM excited for you! Can't wait to see how it turns out! Also--twinsies--I totally have that pic/frame and adore it. Kisses!

We're weird because we kind of like being on top of each other. We're too far away in a king bed!

Gorgeous!!

You should take a look at IKEA. I got a nice duvet cover for a plain down comforter. Get a down comforter and then get a duvet cover...that way you can change it for whatever you decorate with :)

Emma Frances said...

I stink at interior decorating. Haha. But I am jealous of your new bed! And my aunt has plain white bedding {That can be bleached if anything ever gets on it} and then she has tons of fun colorful pillows. So that's always an idea!

Lauryn said...

Ooh, I'm jealous! I'd love a king size bed. Looks comfy!

I'd check out Marshalls or TJ Maxx, if you have those stores near you! They have designer bedding at really low prices, but you have to hunt for a style you like!

I am obsessed with that Kiss Me Goodnight frame. It's SO cute!

And I will come visit anytime! Your guest bedroom isn't pink, is it? ;)

Love this. I would love to have a king size bed but I don't think I would end up with anymore room :) my hubby is the one that likes to cuddle I am good with my leg just over his. I almost feel claustrophobic I keep moving to the edge and so does he so we usually have like 3-4 feet extra on one side of the bed :) But I am jealous of the bigger bed and love the little saying :) so cute! where are you shooting it looks like utah.

Well, since I haven't seen Harry Potter and you have all that popcorn AND a guest room with a comfy bed...I'll be over this weekend! :)

Just found your blog! SO cute!!

I love upgrading my room. I get so bored with the same look all the time! So what I did was I got a SUPER comfy off white comforter. It has a small pattern all over it, which adds a nice touch! BUT THEN here is the kicker! I can redecorate as much as I want by buying differentpillows and throws and accents to add color!!
Just a thought! :)I actually just did a recent post that shows my bedding with pillows and decorations! check it out!

Cute Blog!! As a bedding JUNKIE with 4 kids I've bought my fair share and have to agree with those who say TJ Maxx and West Elm as far value. Target would be a close 3rd. On my bed right now is white bamboo sheet which I love, a white blanket and this grey ruffled circle blanket set and pillows from westelm.com. I also have black and apple green throw pillows.

You are so funny, that is what my sheet looks like too! We got out king size bed about a year ago and honestly it's the best purchase yet! Right before we bought the kind bed, we of course had just bought a white down comforter. Those are not cheap. So I have spent the last year searching for a well priced, yet nice, king one. I found it at Ross! You have to look and look periodically though. I got it for like $80, it would have normally been like $300! Oh just FYI too, I bought the cutest king bedset that I'm going to send you info on RIGHT NOW! :)

Unknown said...

I'm not sure if you have gotten a comforter yet, but I know what you need.

pineconehill.com or westelm.com

Most of the ones I love are duvet covers, so you'd have to get a down comforter first. If you don't mind down alternative, you can find those at any store for cheap.

We just upgraded to a king size too. And it's a serta I-cool memory foam! SO heavenly!
