10 things I love about myself

I woke up to a sweet surprise on Instagram yesterday... a girl left a comment on one of my photos, a photo of Mia and myself to be more specific, with some "free golden advice" to get my nose fixed. My first reaction was shock, then violence (like- I want to punch YOU in the nose, ha ha. so mature.) then sadness. I really wanted to cry because my nose is actually a huge insecurity of mine. It's very large and in charge (ha) and I have a hard time seeing anything else in a photo of me besides my nose. I suppose a nose job would be nice but would that really make me happier? Would I love myself more because of it? I don't know and I won't be finding out. So once I got over my initial shock of the comment I quickly realized that this girl was a troll who gets sick joy out of scrolling photos and leaving snide comments. I deleted the comment and blocked my newest follower (why follow after leaving a comment like that?!) with the intent to forget and move on. But it just bugged me all day. I think it would have been easier to brush it off if she had mentioned something I actually feel confident about, but more than that, what's the point of bringing someone down? Why intentionally leave a comment that will hurt someone's feelings?
I really love the selfie movement (as annoying as they can be at times, ha ha) because I admire girls who have the confidence to post close up pictures of themselves. I am my worst critic and have a hard time liking and posting a picture of myself, but I don't want that to stop me from taking pictures with my favorite little girl and posting them by the millions on Instagram :) So today I'm sharing 10 things (inspired by my girl, Pinky) I love about myself. Because we should love ourselves! I want Mia to love herself and she's going to learn by my example! I love these 10 things about myself because they make me happy, make me a better person and help me to grow as I change through the years.
Totally fuzzy, but hey! Crappy phone selfies are just a normal part of our daily ;) Unless Eric wanted to surprise me with a new phone...
1- my hair.
2- my body. I am so thankful for my health each day. I am grateful I was able to grow a baby inside. I love that I have the ability to be so active. My body is strong and I am able to sculpt it to look a way that makes me feel confident when I work hard at it.
3- my ability to laugh easily. Especially at myself :)
4- my faith.
5- my hands. I'm kind of weird and always notice people's hands. I love long, skinny fingers because they always make me think of instruments, music and artists. I actually like the way my hands look and I played piano for years. My fingers always memorized the music and knew just what to play next. I am really good at doing hair (if I say so myself) and I love that my hands create just the style that makes my client feel good about themselves. I love my hands and all that I get to experience because of them!
6- the way I easily make friends. At times I feel shy and totally want to hide in my shell, but for the most part I am able to be outgoing and friendly and I have a lot of amazing family and friendships to show because of it. I am so blessed to be influenced by so many people I've met in life.
7- how deeply and passionately I love. There are obviously different levels of love I feel for those in my life, but I think it's very easy for me to show my love and build up those around me!
8- my wanderlust. I love to explore and go on new adventures with my little family! But at the same time, I am perfectly content with our day to day life. I just really appreciate my yearning for travels and memories with Eric, and sometimes Mia ;)
9- I know what I want in life.
10- my heart. Because I didn't even tell Eric about this post I was writing, but last night he rattled off different things he loved about me, and I thought it was so sweet when he said this. I care, and I would rather care than feel nothing at all in my heart! He also said he likes my tush, but I thought it would be better if I said my heart ;)

So let's hear it, what do YOU love about yourself?!

Oh my goodness, what a ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude lady! There is no excuse for that kind of talk, online especially. You are beautiful and they are ugly inside!

I agree with everything you love about yourself. It's so wonderful that we feel the same way about our faith, your prayers and our chats mean a lot to me. I also laugh quickly and a lot because life is too short to be miserable. Laugh lines make me smile!

I <3 you!

Ugh. Ignore the rude comments. You're beautiful! And I love this post - we often don't see all the good things about ourselves!

Oh my gosh I can't believe someone left you a comment like that. That is SO mean!! They need to take a long walk off of a short pier. Just kidding! :-) You are a beautiful woman inside and out and you don't need to change a thing. This post was great and I hope that you have a nice day! :-)

I cannot even believe someone would leave a comment like that - she needs to get a life! You are SUCH a gorgeous, beautiful, mama - inside and out - and so glad you can celebrate yourself like this! Lots of hugs your way!

Oh that makes me sad... who does something like that?! Someone who's obviously very ugly inside, that's for sure! I'm sorry that happened... it would definitely bring me down too! Love your post to focus on allll the positive!

oh friend, don't pay attention to obnoxious people like that. you are gorgeous inside and out!

First off! I HATE that for you! That is just so so wrong! You are such a beautiful woman inside and out and I hate that a stranger can make anybody feel so sad because it is so easy to hide behind a computer or cell phone! RUDE! We love you here in Dallas! Hallie always smiles at picture of you and Mia! 2nd... You are so so right! I need to do this because I am constantly hating on myself and I truly don't want my Hallie to learn that behavior! Way to go, your list is beautiful!

some people are so wack! you're awesome!

Courtney! You are so gorgeous!! I have no idea why anyone would want to say dumb stuff like that to you. I am glad you are taking the high road. Rude comments like that suck. But oh well, you have a cutie daughter, a husband, great family and wonderful friends. So those mean people can screw themselves (sorry for that obscene sentence haha)
Anyway, continue with your amazing self, Court!! Your list says it all. AMAZING!!

It is unfortunate how one bad comment can have such an effect on us. You and your daughter are cuties. I hope all these sweet comments can erase the hurtful one.

That girl can KICK ROCKS! You're absolutely gorgeous and you should feel that way any time you're looking at the beautiful little girl you created!

I cannot even believe that someone made a comment like that! YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL. And it makes me so sad that there are so many unbeautiful people in this world - and by unbeautiful (I totally made up that word) I mean character-wise - not anything to do with looks.

I absolutely love this post, and your sweet little love is so lucky to have you as her Mommy! <3 Chin up buttercup - you don't need her anyway. <3

ugh! I have nose insecurities too and always thought when I was young that I would want a nose job when I grew up. But now that I'm an adult, I realized it would not make me happier or more fulfilled! But it doesn't stop the sting of people pointing out your insecurities! In 6th grade I had a boy tell me he couldn't date me b/c my nose was too big. And once in college I was dating a guy and one of his friends asked if I was Jewish. I was surprised by the question and asked what he meant and he said I had a "Jewish nose." -_- Now why do I even remember those random comments?? B/c we carry that junk with us! Focusing on what you love about yourself is definitely the better option! :) I love my sense of humor, kindness, and who I am as a mom! :) oh, and also my eyes!!

I cannot believe anyone would say that! I think you have the most beautiful smile and that is what I see first and foremost when I look at you and your family. How happy you guys are. Love this post! Everyone needs to remmeber why they love themselves. And my husband would have the same butt comment, haha.

I think you have a cute nose! Some people didn't get enough love and don't turn to full functioning decent people. It's heartbreaking how the world gets so ugly. But you're one of the lights in it so shake it off! You're beautiful inside and out, what an awesome blessing!

oh my goshhhhhh! How awful!! I am so sorry! You are beautiful the way you are :) For people to say such mean things about/to other people, only means that they do not have confidence in themselves. They're immature & pathetic. Makes me so mad! I love this list, especially the last one!

Mandie said...

Girlie, I'm apart of the "Big Nose Nation" & I'm very self conscious of mine as well. I hate taking selfies of myself cuz they always look ridiculous. But I do love this posting & I may have to steal the idea from you.

By the way, I love your hair too. :)

Oh girl. I would be punching that brat, too, if I could! I love that you took a horrible experience and used it to remember instead the good things about yourself that give you confidence :)

You are truly a beautiful person inside and out!!! It's so sad that other people feel like they need to be mean to feel good / be heard. Your rude commenter must have a rough background or something terrible. Give grace always. :) (Or at least I try!) I love these ten BEAUTIFUL things about you because as women we definitely need to build ourselves up more. So what if you or I aren't super models? We've got what counts! A big caring heart goes a lot further in life than any nose.

Happily Ever Parker said...

OH mama! How awful that some lowlife felt the need to make a rude comment to you. I assume it's just because she herself is insecure. So happy you listed out 10 things you love about yourself (and that your husband added to that list!) What a good role model you are for your daughter!

I seriously don't understand people sometimes. Look people, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. Didn't your mom teach you that? Ugh. I'm so sorry she said that but I love how you turned something negative into something positive. I think you are GORGEOUS! And please, keep posting those selfies of you and your girl! xo

Courtney [Sweet Turtle Soup] said...

Great for you! Trolls don't even warrant one second of thought. You're beautiful! Your hair is fabulous! And, you completely seem like a truly wonderful person.

This is beautiful, and so are you! I cannot believe someone seriously commented about your nose. I have been so lucky to have avoided almost any negative comments to this point, but I'm sure my day will come...

I will never understand internet bullies but then again if we understood, we would be like them! I love how you turned it around and did this post! You are beautiful and so is this post!

I can't believe someone would say something like that! We all have aspects about ourselves that we feel insecure about (mine is my jawline, or lack thereof) but you are beautiful inside and out, don't let anyone tell you differently! I love this topic and it has truly got me thinking about what my ten would be.

Erin LFF said...

People are so mean. You'd think things like that wouldn't surprise me anymore but I just cannot imagine ever making such a rude comment to someone! I'm insecure about a lot of things, but have come to love most of my quirks ;)

Wow, that what this world has come to: to judge others over the internet. While we all may have things that we dislike about ourselves, we must embrace them. The way we were made is the way God wanted us to be, and I feel bad for those who think they have to change because they want the world's approval. You're beautiful the way you are, because God loves you! Keep your head up! :)

I just don't get why ppl leave comments like that? I mean ok you don't have to be miss susie sunshine if you want to start a dialogue. But just plain mean? I don't understand that. You are beautiful and this is an awesome post! Way to take that negative comment and spin it into something positive!

tina bumblebee said...

WOW what in the world? Was it a real Instagram account or a fake one??? You are so beautiful, that is crazy!!! No one looks perfect and how boring if they did? I have a huge issue with plastic surgery because like what if Mia grows up and has the same exact nose as you and finds out that you changed yours... that's basically teaching her that there is something wrong with her nose that she may not have even thought beforehand! You might not like your nose but other people might love it, you know? We should be teaching our children to love how they look and celebrate those things that make us unique... not teach them to dislike things about themselves! You're such a great mom!

Ugh, people are SO rude... but I love THIS POST!! And you're totally right - you have the best hair, you look amazing, and you have a beautiful heart!! (I'm sure all the other things are true, too, but those three things - I witness on a daily basis when I read your blog!!)

Janna Renee said...

UGH I WANT TO PUNCH ANYONE IN THE FACE THAT COULD BE MEAN TO YOU!!!!!!!!! I don't even care if she's just trolling. A) I hate trolling and B) being mean to you is like kicking the cutest/sweetest puppy in the world. You are PERFECT, and NEVER EVER change a thing!
I also like what you said about hands and the way they inspire you. It's a beautiful concept.
LOVE YOU!!

I'm a little late in writing this - okay maybe a lot late writing this... I love love love this post! I don't even think I could come up with 5 things I love about myself. And cyber bullies (cause that's what she is) thrive on any comment written back to them about being mean. It's weird how that brings them joy?! I think you did what was best, by deleting the comment and removing her from following you.
