28 weeks {a name for baby girl}

picture taken at 28 weeks 1 day

Don't mind my comfy outfit... I figured since I've made it to the third trimester, why bother getting dressed up anymore? Ha ha, I'm kidding! I promise I still try to look cute. I just kind of forgot to change for this picture :)
So I've been getting the same question a lot lately... do we have a name picked out for baby girl?? We're pretty sure we've got her name picked BUT we won't be sharing it until she is born. I have a couple different reasons behind waiting to share. 1- I'm pretty set on the name and Eric is on board as well... but we could change our minds between now and birth. Or we may see her and decide that she just doesn't look like a "......" you know? So nothing is set in stone until she makes her arrival into our world!
2- The name has a sweet story behind it, actually, it has a couple cute stories that makes the name very dear to my heart. And it melts my heart every time I hear Eric say the name. Basically, I love the name! But you know.... people give their opinions too freely sometimes and they don't stop to think how negative or hurtful their opinion can be. Eric and I will be naming our daughter based on a name that we love, and a name that feels right. No one else can make that special decision except for mom and dad, right? Right. So if someone doesn't agree with the name we choose, it's not going to change our minds. But it will hurt my feelings. And it might turn me into a mama bear and I might say something hurtful back. (Ha ha, I'm kidding! I have pretty good self control :)) But when she is born, and we give her a name, no one is going to give their opinions about whether they like the name or not. Because she will be a sweet baby sent straight from heaven and everyone will be so wrapped up in her. She will be real. She will be our little "......" and no one would be able to deny that reality. Everyone will be so in love with her, regardless of her name. So until that moment comes, I'm going to let her name be a surprise for everyone else, and a special secret between me and Eric :)

I completly understand where your coming from! often, a super pretty name to you could be ugly to someone else because they may have known someone with that name and they didnt like them.

so keep it to yourself just like you plan to, all that matters is that you love it! :)

oh i will be doing the same thing!
i hate it when people say things like "the kid that bullied me in high school was named that" or "you mean like [INSERT NASTY CELEBRITY]"
ugh. i'd get all mama bear for you if people gave crap. names are a pretty big deal. you don't mess. and you don't mess with a pregnant lady either.
that being said, can't wait to hear what it is a.k.a. can't wait till she's born!

I'm so excited to hear it!!!!

I love that we shared ours though. I love being able to say things like Ainsley is going crazy! Or people plan gifts around her name, things like that. We've only gotten negative feedback from one person and he was just rude!

BUT, I completely understand where you're coming from! I think it's so sweet to announce the name with the birth!!! Plus, some people can be super annoying about the name. We've been lucky!!!

Also, you're looking great!!! I'm a little jealous of your cute little bump! ;) I wish mine didn't get in the way so much. Me pickign stuff up off the floor is not a pretty sight, haha!

Amy said...

girlfriend you always have excuses for your 'weekly bump' pictures, but you look SO beautiful every time!! you win.

P.S. Don't blame you for keeping the name secret until she is born.

I was all excited to hear the name you guys had picked out! Haha. I TOTALLY understand not sharing it though! People can be so rude! And, we got the rudest comments from people in our families which was really frustrating! Luckily we still loved our little girl's names so what people said didn't matter. Just like I'm sure you guys would stick with it despite people's silly comments too! I will just be even more excited to hear it when she comes! And you are looking so cute!! Comfy clothes are the way to go when the third trimester hits! Haha.

You're smart to do it this way! I hated telling people what we were thinking of naming our baby. I didn't want or need their feedback. It just complicated things more. I thought the same thing as you, it's not final til the baby's born and the name is on the certificate! So I hope that we can do this with our next one.

You hold that name tightly girl and don't tell anyone. We never tell any of the names we are considering. It's annoying when people give their opinions, and?... it's a fun little surprise. And seriously, with boy of my boys, we ended up waiting to name them until birth and it was so awesome to have that moment where we looked down at our fresh squishy baby and chose a name. It's such a special moment. So even if you end up changing your mind on the name, you'll end up with something that feels right for you... and you won't have to consider anyone elses opinions.

You are the cutest pregnant lady I ever seeeennn! I can't wait to hear the name and can't wait to see this bababaaaa. You look FABULOUS. and super super tiny.

I can't wait to hear the name but totally understand! We will enventually do the same, find out sex but not tell the name!! :)

Love it. I think it's a good idea to keep names a secret, because you're right - people can be really mean. Can't believe it's coming up so quickly!! It'll be here before you know it!

We kept our son's name a secret too (besides family) for the same reason [idiotic comments] but also because we chose one that was uncommon on purpose. We didn't want there being interest and then a ton more of those popping up. I'm big on having a semi-unique name. :)

Love your sweet bump! It's growing!! I definitely don't blame y'all for wanting to keep it secret! People sure don't mind voicing their opinions!! Haha. It is super fun to call Emory by name now, though...and to hear other people say it. It melts my heart! Once we were 100% set, we announced it and we really haven't had any negative feedback. But when we were thinking of names, people would always say they loved this name, hated that name, etc. Ugh! Super annoying!

Good idea to wait & see if it fits her! My husband & I just had our 2nd baby, we named him Hayden. It doesn't fit him at all so now we are trying to get it legally changed. Its such a hassle!

Pamela said...

Aww I can't wait to hear what her name is!! & see the cute little booger :) ahh, she is going to be ADORABLE!

Brittany said...

What a precious bump! And we have the same view on names...you never know what he/she will look like and if the name will "fit". I think it's a sweet secret between you two :)

i have to admit... im kind of sad you're not sharing the name. but i don't blame you at all! people can be so rude with sharing their opinions sometimes. i am sure babys name is beautiful and its probably fun to share a little secret just with eric for a while :)

I will probably be the same way when I start to have children. My parents were "young and dumb" when I was born so because of the criticism from my grandma, my name was changed from Tabitha Nicole to Jessica Rene. But I do like my name. :)

Unknown said...

i second the don't need to dress up anymore! i live in my pjs right now! haha.

we had names picked out before we were even married. one boy and one girl name. it was what we liked and wanted and it worked out with my first totally fits her name. we had another girl, but it was an easy decision on the name, it just worked. so we still have that boy name hanging over us to use. hahaha.

i say if you love a name who cares what people think. it is special to you so it will be perfect. can't wait for your little bundle to arrive. :)

I'm sad I will have to wait to hear her name but I totally understand! Try to enjoy these last weeks. I actually miss the anticipation now. Plus you make pregnancy look adorable.

I don't blame you one bit about keeping at least something a secret. I'll probably do the same thing you're doing when it comes our time. There's too much riff raff about names nowadays and yes people can be cruel. But I can't wait to hear it!

Kell said...

You are so adorable! I've never understood why people can't filter their thoughts and consider how they'll make other people feel. I'm sure the name you guys have picked will be perfect.. and anyone who thinks differently will hopefully keep it to themselves!

Katrin said...

Glad you found a name you both love! And I would absolutely do it the same way and keep it a secret!

Jennifer said...

Don't worry, I did the same thing to people when they asked. I told them we were throwing names aruond and will know when she is born.

Getting closer! So excited for you!

I LOVE having that little special secret with the hubs as well. It's so special. I am HORRIBLE at keeping things to myself...so it's oh so difficult...but so worth it to be able to come home and call baby by name around only my husband. Love it!

Jen said...

So excited for the day I get to see pictures of your baby girl! and I just know I will love whatever name you chose :-)

Im glad you guys found a name you can both agree on! I seriously think that's one of the hardest parts before baby comes. And keeping it a secret is totally understandable. People like to speak without thinking.. And they overvalue their opinions sometimes. (;
We also changed the name of our daughter the day/night she was born. I'm glad we did, the names we chose were both gender neutral and she's too much of a little diva for that. (;
You guys are so cute i can't wait to see your little princess!

I think it is so sweet that you are keeping her name a special secret....I know that we will all love her no matter what name you choose! ;) xoxoxo

p.s. you look AMAZING!!

brittany said...

I always keep my names a secret too! I admit, I love hearing what people are naming their baby before it's born though. haha And I'm always nice about it!! :) But it's so true... if you share the name when you're still prego you get all kinds of unneeded comments and opinions. If you wait til it's born though, the name always just seems to fit! Ya know? Anyway... you look adorable! Good luck with these last few months. At least it's cooling down now, right?! :)

Shay said...

You look SO AWESOME, first of all! And I completely agree with not telling- we told a few people which was fine (mostly my family) but I knew I didnt want all the "opinions" because I would get my feelings heart! Best decision for us!

Shannon said...

I can't wait to here her name!

We kept Hunters name a secret too (though we did slip and tell two people prior) and we kept it a secret for the same reasons you are. I also did it because I wanted my husband to have something fun to announce to the family that was a surprise and since everyone already knew the gender that left the name. I plan to keep any future kiddos names a secret also.

Suget said...

Awwe. I had my daughter's name picked out... But I never nor will use it now ): haha You two are going to be amazing parents!! Can't wait (:

I fully support your decision to keep the name a secret. Before a baby is born, people think of names as "suggestions" that they love to chime in on. After a baby is born, people understand the name is set in stone.

McKinley {Haolepinos} said...

How funny!! We were the exact same way for the exact same reasons! Both me and Gian have a lot of meaning behind our names and want to make sure we pass those traditions to our kidlets so we don't care for other peoples opinions or two cents. And I personally believe that the babies come to earth with their own names, so I try to stay really open about what the baby wants versus what I think/want. And Ekemona has a really great story behind his name too. So it all works out. I can't wait to hear what you name her!! She will be a little doll!

Yay third trimester! What a huge mile stone. I love that our baby girls are gonna be soooo close in age!!!
You always look AMAZING in your pics preggy, you shouldn't excuse yourself.
Rob and I ate totally with you on keeping the baby name a secret till after the birth for exactly the same reasons as you and Eric.
I am sooo excited to find out the name you're decided on!

Our family and friends know our baby girl's name, but I decided to keep it a secret in my blogging world until I reveal her to y'all! I figured it'd be more special...so I understand you guys doing that too. :)

Awwh you're gettin.g closer! I understand why you don't want to share the name. Whenever I have children, I don't want to reveal names because I don't want people to "steal" them. Not that a name can be stolen, but I have unique names picked out and I want to keel them that way! :)

You are an adorable mommy! I love that you all are keeping that special secret between each other, you're right, who cares what other people think, it's YOUR daughter! I have missed keeping up with you, life has been hectic lately, but I'm glad to see you and Eric are doing well and you're looking cute as ever!

Janna Renee said...

I think your reasons are very rational and so true! People can't say anything negative once your beautiful little baby already has it ;) I also wouldn't tell anyone, because someone else will for sure steal it ;)

Ashley said...

I would keep the name secret too. Also if you have a few names in mind you may want to use one further down the road for another baby girl. You just never know. You don't want us crazy bloggers stealing your names. ;)

I am SO glad I can view your blog again. Did you ever find out if anything was wrong with it?
